Family Counseling
Family Counseling services are generally available within 24 - 72 hours to families in
crisis, as needed. The immediate goal of family crisis intervention is to address the
issues that have precipitated the crisis and assess the likelihood of family violence.
The family counselor works with the family to identify possible resolutions to the problem
and reduce the degree of stress between family members. Once this is accomplished, each family
member is given an opportunity to discuss his/her problems with the counselor and to work on
viable solutions. Clients are eligible for individual and family counseling on a weekly basis
for a period of up to 13 sessions.
Family Resources also provides a range of support groups to both youth and parents which
will enhance family relationships through improved communication, healthy self-expression,
parenting skills, adolescent socialization skills, as well as a variety of client/family-initiated
topics. Currently, groups are being provided in Family Resources' St. Petersburg, Largo and
Manatee offices.
